So far he hasn't, but I brought it up a few times before and people seem to vehemently believe that Oda never pulls surprises. I even referenced how Jinbei was said to join many arcs ago before WholeCake Island, and eventually, despite separating twice and staying behind, Jinbei still caught up and joined. I don't see why Yamato wouldn't pull something of this sort, perhaps on Momonosuke's request, when Luffy is in trouble, then end up just sticking around. Kind of like how Oden left with Roger. Yamato, who thinks she's Oden, will depart with Luffy, in a clumsily, late, roundabout way.
